Review:
‘The Project’ is a long way removed from Kev Bayliss’ previous incarnation as lead singer of hotly tipped UK rockers Voodoo Johnson. Gone is the aggressive riff laden sound that typifies that band and in comes extremely catchy pop/rock melodies. Each song is beautifully crafted and Mr Bayliss certainly wears his heart on his sleeve throughout.

The opener, ‘Your Heart’s Desire’, is a fine example of the album as a whole. Well crafted, with great song writing and a perfect mix of an extremely catchy and memorable chorus, combined with a hard pop/rock edge musically.

The band Bayliss has surrounded himself with during the recording of this album are of the highest quality, with some superb performances from each and every one of them. The song writing partnership he has formed with both Lucky Singh and Kevin Drake, proves to be the perfect match. When you hear his lyrics over their music, you can’t help but be moved. Goosebumps, Shivers, call it what you will, this album will make you FEEL the music.

The album as a whole is best described as guitar driven pop/rock. There are some excellent rock tracks such as ‘My Sorry Cinderella’, ‘Your Heart’s Desire’ and the great ‘Kung Fu Master’, which showcases not only the vocal rock prowess of Kev Bayliss, but the extremely talented group of individuals he has acquired for his debut album.

The ‘pop’ side of the album is in evidence on tracks like the single ‘Quicksand’, which gently pulls you in and holds you tight throughout the entire song.  ‘One Day Older’ should be a huge hit. It’s one of those songs that are played during the tense moments of American dramas such as Greys Anatomy or on the soundtrack to one of Richard Curtis’s English rom-coms.

Kev Bayliss is obviously a very talented singer songwriter and on this, his debut solo album, he has produced twelve glorious tracks, each of which will produce a smile and a warm feeling within the listener. It has more hooks than a fishermans box, yet will melt your heart with its passion and power. The vocals are first class. The music is faultless and the overall album is like nectar being poured into your ears.
