BIO
In 1847, as the Great storm erupted to its crescendo, no-one could’ve expected what was to be delivered. Half Navajo, half Hendrix and half solid stone, the violent nature of the freak weather conditions had unleashed upon the world an unearthly creation that would eventually form the backbone of the creatures only known as ‘Fighting Wolves’.
Their first century saw them fighting great wars, always the victor, always faceless. They were unstoppable. After their triumph in World War II (to this day nobody knows the true extent of their participation) the legion known as ‘Fighting Wolves’ took a couple of days off. It wasn’t a weekend, but instead a Tuesday and Wednesday. Legend has it that the Tuesday was named after them. That Tuesday we now all know as ‘Pancake Day’.
On these, their first ever days off from being Gods, Legends, whatever mythical name you choose, one of their kind started hitting a rock with a stick. A stick which had fallen from the great Elder tree. The rhythm which was produced was so infectious that soon the rest of the warriors, Gods, Ninjas, whatever mythical name you choose, joined in. When finally one let out a cloud bursting scream, the others turned to each other and said “We should form a band”.

Skip to present day and we now find ourselves with this incarnation of Fighting Wolves.
Claiming to be Londoners, yet extensive undercover research into these giants, creatures, Gods, whatever mythical name you choose, has shown that at least two of them are in fact Celtic in origin. Conclusive proof they hail from that great storm? You decide. With old school hard rock, combined with catchy, contemporary writing, their first EP ‘Prologue’ (Which was produced by Matt Hyde...although we think this too might be an alias and he, somehow, is involved in covering up this story) has been picked up and played on national radio stations throughout the UK. Is this the start of yet another attempt by the ‘Wolves’ to take over the world? You decide. |
|
In disguise, they have also toured as support act to The Union, Saint Jude and Tyketto, amongst others, playing academy tours as well as festivals, including Download (Do not get us started on Download... Secret headquarters anyone?)
The band, Wolves, Fighters, whatever mythical name you choose, are currently working on their debut album ‘Chapter 1’. Tracks already recorded can be previewed by those who pre-order the album (before April 4th) via pledgemusic.com, with a planned general release for April 2013. We feel a warning should be made here with regards to cryptic, subliminal messages, hidden within the album. We believe, after extensive undercover research, that there aren’t any.

Paul Blue Interview
I Review Rock caught up with Paul to talk all things Wolfy.
IRR: Hi Paul. Many thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions. Let’s get straight to it. You are in the process of recording your debut album ‘Chapter 1’, how’s it coming along?
Paul: We are just getting the guitars on it now but so far Im extremely positive. The songs are coming together even better than I imagined! Danny managed to nail his drum parts in just over a day and they sound perfect. The guy is a beast. This is the exciting and nerve wrecking part but its shaping up to be beyond expectations. For me anyway!
Why did you choose the Pledgemusic route?
Because we are poor! It made sense to try it out and see if we could get some extra money involved. We wanted to make an album that we basically cant afford to do. We want it to be massive and epic. The song writing was already there, it was making it explode that we needed to do. So we called on pledgemusic and in turn, our fans who have put faith in us.
I see there are even ‘House party’ pledges. I presume that means the band will turn up at someone’s house and play? Will that be acoustically?
It will be any way that the people want! If they want half stacks in their living room and a full on drum kit and PA thats exactly what they will get!
You can pledge here: http://www.pledgemusic.com/artists/fightingwolves Pledge closes 4th April
So when are us pledgers likely to receive the finished album?
We originally had mid March penciled in for the completion of the album however one thing with the pledge way of working and the time frame is that you can get a 'PANIC PANIC!!!' sensation very quickly and so we are taking it as it comes. It has to be the best and thats just the way it is. If people get impatient they will understand when they hear it! In saying that we are still looking at a March release for pledgers...
And will you be touring the new album and will there be a spectacular album launch party?
We will be touring this album until our hands fall off and our guitars are worn. Im not a big fan of launch parties, it celebrates people that can get to it easier etc. and I think everyone should be given that chance. So why not treat every day of the tour like the launch party?!
I already have my ticket for the Planet Rock event in Manchester, where you’ll be playing alongside The Temperance Movement and Slam Cartel, which looks a cracking gig. Three great bands. How did you become involved in that?
We just kept poking people asking them if we can play. Eventually they give up in the end (or punch you in the face)
Any chance the three bands might do a small UK tour together?
My understanding is that it wont happen unfortunately. We have reached out and are ready for anything. You may see us with Slam Cartel though...
It’s also been announced that you are part of The Steelhouse Festival in July, along with The Temperance Movement. Are you two bands plotting world domination this year?
Yes, we have been planning it for a while. There are complex sketches and diagrams in my locker. Some resemble an updated version of the death star. Unfortunately there was an incident which involved much rum and The Temperance Movement and they have stolen some of those plans! We may have to share the spotlight...
Michael Schenker is also on the bill, any other bands been announced yet?
We know the mighty Saxon and Buffalo Summer have been. There are also some exciting names being bounced about.. It will definitely be worth getting down to and camping out, well be there all weekend for sure!
Any plans for Fighting Wolves to play any other festivals in 2013?
Like most things, we have reached out and we are getting some positive feedback but we are just waiting to hear when we can announce anything. We definitely have big plans though!
‘One Minute More’, from your Prologue EP ended up getting a lot of airplay on the likes of Planet Rock. Did you feel or see a change in your fans? Did you get lots of new followers on your social media sites?
Definitely! I think at the end of the day we owe a lot to Planet Rock but that was undeniably just the start. We owe a lot to many people and we will repay them in rock! Our followers and likes sure went up. I like the communication more than the numbers though. I like when people can tell us what they like about songs, what they dont and see us at gigs and say 'hey, Im *(*&^ from facebook!' I think thats great.
You were generous enough to allow I Review Rock to include ‘Apology’ on our first UNDISCOVERED cd. Do you think when we release UNDISCOVERED II in the summer, you will still be eligible to be included?
I am hoping we have a little track that may just blow peoples faces off and you may feel like it NEEDS to be on the cd! The first one was an amazing mix of great bands and a great thing to do for artists so I hope so. PS It looks pretty suave!
So how did the band name come about?
Basically it was around the time of the end of my last band. I wanted to try some thing different and we had been fighting so hard to get into magazines etc and trying to get the word about. I remember saying 'It feels like Im Fighting Wolves'. From then it became evident that we would need to become the 'wolves' in order to fight them. After that I decided to not take no for an answer and really push myself as a musician and as a person. So in that respect it means both that we are the wolves that are fighting and that we are fighting the wolves. It is a strange balancing act all with in one name and I think it applies to our music aswell. See this old cherokee story:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
You are London based, are you all local London lads or ended up there for the music?
Me and Danny ended up here because of music. He's from a little town in Scotland. I'm from a little town in Ireland! Jake and Andy are both London boys. When I first moved to London I didn't know any of them, then you start gigging etc and you just meet people that you have a connection with.
How is the London Rock scene? Any bands you can recommend we check out?
It is very much like most large cities. It isnt just one scene really, it is loads of little ones all completely independent of each other. We have played with great bands in all different genres. Sondura, Top Buzzer and Landmarq if you like prog!
Thanks again for taking the time Paul. Enjoy finishing the album and we all look forward to seeing and hearing more from Fighting Wolves in 2013.

Interview by: Andy
Quick fire Questions
Q1: Favourite song off your début album?
Paul: Got Your Back
Jake: Give Me A Sign
Andy: Scared of Flying
Danny: Just To Feel Alive
Q2: First album you bought?
Paul: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!
Jake: Power Rangers theme music with the special edition Go Green Ranger b-side
Andy: I bought a photo album at a Charity Shop. It made me feel less lonely. And my family now looks a lot more exotic.
Danny: Pantera 101 Proof
Q3: When did you last get goosebumps?
Paul: Last Thursday at 2.30pm whenever a train went past me and I had a mental image of an alien jumping out and turning me into a sleeping bag for use in bad weather situations (he may have been on the way to Hoth). I shivered.
Jake: I had a dream last night that I stole a lion cub from a zoo, although it was disguised as a shaved rat. I was pretty excited at the thought of having my own lion. I woke up with goosebumps of excitement only to discover I do not own a lion. That was a shame.
Andy: When I found the photo album at the charity shop. More recently, however, was the time that I lobbed my bass through an ancient Ampeg SVT stack. It did things to me. More so than with the photo album. And goosebumbs appeared.
Danny: Used to read it all the time, never bought one though. Great books.
Q4: Who is your inspiration?
Paul: No one in particular. Every crap band out there. They inspire me. To not be crap.
Jake: Stan Smith
Andy: The Who are my inspiration
Danny: There's not one person or act that I could pick but I would say anyone that's not afraid to give it a go.
Q5: What’s your guilty TV pleasure?
Paul: Andromeda! Sci Fi epics!
Jake: Gilmore Girls
Andy: Eastenders.
Danny: Antiques Roadshow, however, I'm not really that guilty about it. Antiques are badass.
Q6: What music are you listening to at the moment?
Paul: Elliott Smith.
Jake: Tremonti - All I was, Sixx AM - This Is Gonna Hurt and The Ataris - So Long Astoria
Andy: The "phone-call on hold music" from my bank. They're taking ages. And I am spending more of their money while listening to this Kenny G-esque exploration of a Beyonce track.
Danny: I've just moved into a shared house and they're constantly playing 'choons' downstairs. I'll call it shitty-dance-ear-rape music.
Q7: Creativity – Is it Inspiration or Perspiration?
Paul: Pft.. Bit of both? Perspiration at the realisation that contortion of your creativity can cause deviation from the creation?
Jake: Perspiration. The more I create, the wetter I get.
Andy: It's being inspired so much that one overdoes it and inevitably begins to perspire a fair bit as a result.
Danny: Perspiration. Sitting on a drum throne for that many hours produces sweaty balls.
Q8: Wine or Beer?
Paul: Secret answer 3.. RUM!
Jake: Beer is for men. I am a man. Kinda.
Andy: Depends on the country. I happen to have an affinity for the sound of red wine on plastic.
Danny: Wine...but I do love Leffe!
Q9: If you had to educate someone from scratch in the field of rock (as I had to do with my wife!) What/Who would you start with?
Paul: Tom Petty. I did and I turned out alright. RIGHT?! RIGHT>!? PS Can I also add that Danny tried to answer 2 questions and was too stupid to not even answer the original one?!
Jake: People need to know about Def Leppard.
Andy: I am going to cheat and find out how YOU tackled this very same question. Why reinvent the wheel? I like the looks of you. Pint? Afterwards? We'll talk.
Danny: When I first read this I thought you wrote ejaculate, so I'm going to answer both questions; i) I would ejaculate someone like Iggy Pop because I reckon he would appreciate it and I'm sure we could have a good laugh about it too. ii) I would probably say my girlfriend but I've already shared most of my rock knowledge with her, so I would probably answer that question with, anyone that asks me. Not that I have an abundance of knowledge or anything!
Q10: And finally. What is your second favourite sandwich?
Paul: A dead sandwich. All sandwiches should be sent to France far away from me!
Jake: Pastrami, pickle n cheese.
Andy: Jake's leftovers.
Danny: Corned beef, cheese, mayo.
Paul: Got Your Back
Jake: Give Me A Sign
Andy: Scared of Flying
Danny: Just To Feel Alive
