NEW SOLO ALBUM: ‘TERMS & CONDITIONS APPLY’

Paul Raymond, songwriter, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist of legendary cult hard rock outfit UFO has inked a deal with Cherry Red Records' new hard rock imprint label Hear No Evil for his new solo album with The Paul Raymond Project.

The new album, entitled "Terms & Conditions Apply" is set for a worldwide release on January 28, 2013.   It will mark the sixth release by the group and features a guest appearance from Michael Schenker (MSG, UFO, Scorpions) on a cover of ‘Reach Out (I’ll Be There)’ and by Reuben Archer (Stampede, Wild Horses, Lionheart, Lautrec) on ‘Love Is Blind'.

Paul Raymond is set to play some select regional solo UK shows to promote “Terms & Conditions Apply” in the New Year, including a special headline launch show at London’s Borderline venue on Friday 1st February, before resuming his duties touring with UFO.  The shows will feature Stampede vocalist Reuben Archer amongst other special guests and will showcase the new material as well as UFO classics. Regional dates are yet TBA.

Paul Raymond is primarily best known for his work in UFO, having joined the band’s ranks in 1976. Beginning with “Lights Out” in 1977, to date Paul has appeared on 11 UFO albums, including the incendiary double live “Strangers In the Night”.  In a varied career, he’s also been a key member in a number of acts, including 70s legends Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack, Michael Schenker Group and Waysted.

The Paul Raymond Project (PRP) was first formed in 1989 in Japan featuring original lineup of Frank Di Mino (formerly of Angel) on lead vocals and Masoyoshi Yamashitu (Loudness) on bass.  Paul spent 1990 writing new material, inspired by the resurgence of straight-ahead blues/rock led by bands such as the Black Crowes and the Quireboys, until, joined by guitarist Andy Simmons, the third incarnation of the project released “Man on a Mission” through Zoom Club records.  It was to be nine years before Paul and Andy joined forces again and recorded “Virtual Insanity” as UFO had once again intervened. In 2010, together with bass player Mark Coles and drummer Tony Steel, they began working on “Terms & Conditions Apply”.

Sylosis released their current album “Monolith” on October 5th 2012. It is a concept album inspired by aspects of Greek Mythology.

Guitarist/Vocalist Josh Middleton says: “Monolith is the best representation of us as a band in terms of our diverse influences, and stylistically it’s what we’ve always been aiming for. A mixture of thrash, big doomy riffs and dark atmospherics and ambience.”
“The idea for the concept was very loosely inspired by the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice,” continued Middleton. “It’s quite far-fetched but it’s about this guy who loses his wife and tries to bring her back from underworld. This giant monolith starts to grow out of her tomb. The most prevalent theme beneath it all is sort of accepting that you might not be as nice a person as you once thought. It sounds really cheesy but everyone has a darker side to their personality in terms of being selfish, manipulative or dishonest.”

In 2008, an unknown quartet from Reading, England released their debut album “Conclusion Of An Age” via Nuclear Blast Records, and made an instant impact on the European metal Scene. Sylosis blend modern thrash and traditional prog elements to create their own unique brutal sound. The band took this on the road with such bands as In Flames, As I Lay Dying, Lamb Of God and Fear Factory and festival appearances at the likes of Download, Wacken and Sonisphere.

High expectations were looming for the eagerly anticipated new material, and it kicked off to a great start when they entered the legendary Monnow Valley Studios (Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Rush) in Monmouth, Wales. Also this time teaming up with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, Funeral For A Friend). The outcome of those sessions produced the album “Monolith” which is an outstanding piece of work. 2012 was an exciting year for Sylosis. Not only with the release of “Monolith” but they have just finished a full European tour opening for Devin Townsend and Fear Factory throughout December. 

2013 promises so much, with a full UK headline tour announced including this eagerly anticipated Emma Scott Presents show at the O2 Academy Birmingham on Friday 25th January, the year is going to kick off in epic style!

17, 18, 19, 19. Nope, not today’s lottery numbers, but the ages of Finland’s most promising new metal band.

Founded in early 2010 in Jyväskylä, frontman - thrash/speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna (17), gathered an ensemble of passionate allies around him and created a band that will soon be known as one of the most energetic up-and-comers Scandinavia has produced in years.

VON HERTZEN BROTHERS ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM, ‘NINE LIVES’, FOR MARCH 18TH RELEASE VIA SPINEFARM RECORDS

+ UK FESTIVAL & HEADLINE SHOWS…

FINLAND’s NUMBER ONE rock act, Von Hertzen Brothers, will release their fifth studio album, ‘Nine Lives’, on March 18th 2013 via Spinefarm Records.

Jari Salo aka James Spectrum (Pepe Deluxe) joined VHB in the studio to once again produce & mix ’Nine Lives’, following his work on their 2011 album, ‘Stars Aligned’ – the band’s third consecutive No 1 outing in Finland!

With ‘Nine Lives’, the initial idea was to give greater freedom to the more accessible side of the music, but it wasn’t long before deep-rooted instincts started to play a part…

“Suddenly, it all span out of control,” laughs vocalist/guitarist  Mikko Von Hertzen, “and that progressive side of our nature once again took control. The KISS motto (Keep It Simple, Stupid) that I learnt back in school is still not fully at home in this world of ours, even though we do try our best..."

VHB credit artists such as Josh Homme, Boston & Black Sabbath as notable influences on this new nine-track offering, but at the end of the day, this is still very much a Von Hertzen release, full of typical variety & ambition…

"We follow the atmosphere of each song separately, so there's quite a mixed buffét of styles,” continues Mikko. “For example, there’s an a cappella song dedicated to our late grandmother, which was sung in the monastery church of Valamo (Finland). We were constantly searching for vibes, which is why we’re so drawn to the work of German musician/composer Stephan Micus, he’s very inspirational. Sometimes you just have to take the long road to get to where you’re going…”

The first single/video from ‘Nine Lives’, ‘Flowers And Rust’,  is scheduled for digital release through Spinefarm on February 4th 2013; says Mikko, “It’s a story about the breakdown of first love and the mark it can leave, and how that mark often stays with us throughout our lives…”

The artwork for ‘Nine Lives’ features a striking painting by Finnish artist Samuli Heimonen; Heimonen was voted Finland’s ‘Young Artist Of The Year’ in 2008. 

ON THE live front, VHB return to the UK in April for an appearance at the inaugural Hard Rock Hell: Prog Fest in Rotherham; they have also confirmed two headline shows, including their first ever regional date, with at least one more likely to follow…

EVILE have confirmed a short string of shows in the UK and Ireland with German thrash metal legends KREATOR.

The band's will be teaming up for three shows this April in Dublin, Manchester and London.  The shows take place shortly after EVILE are scheduled to finish recording their new album, the follow-up to 2011's FIVE SERPENT'S TEETH.

EVILE bassist JOEL GRAHAM comments:

"We are really looking forward to playing a few shows with the mighty Kreator this April; we really enjoyed touring the US with them for two months back in 2010.  We'll be fresh out of the studio too around this time, so who knows, it's possible these shows could see us playing some new stuff for the first time..."

JULIAN COPE – ST JULIAN DELUXE EDITION
Released: 4th Feb 2013 

Saint Julian was the first album recorded by Julian Cope for Island Records, following his two albums on the Mercury label.
Encouraged by his new manager, Cope changed his image: cutting his hair, wearing rocker’s leathers and embracing a "Rock God" perspective (as well as investing in a bizarre climbable microphone stand (with integral steps). To record and tour the album, Cope put together a new backing group, this featured lead guitarist Donald Ross Skinner and drummer Chris Whitten and James Eller (who’d played alongside Cope on the second Teardrop Explodes album, Wilder) and Cope himself on vocals and rhythm guitar. For the album, Cope also played keyboards under the alias of "Double DeHarrison", Several songs on the album originated from much earlier than the others. "Screaming Secrets" had been a Teardrop Explodes song which never made it to album, while "Spacehopper" dated back to late 1970s writing sessions with Ian McCulloch.

The album’s new songs abandoned the collapsing psychedelic styles of Fried in favour of a crisp, punchier and more structured sound, drawing partially on Cope’s professed love for Detroit heavy rock acts such as early Alice Cooper. Early sessions were supervised by Ramones producer Ed Stasium and delivered the song "World Shut Your Mouth" (which became Cope’s biggest solo hit, reaching #19 in the UK in 1986), "Pulsar" and "Spacehopper". The remaining album sessions were produced by Warne Livesey. The parent album was well received and generated two more singles ("Trampolene" and "Eve’s Volcano").

 This deluxe version of the album contains all the B-side and remixes which have been sequenced by Julian himself. With notes by Ian Harrison and updated art this is a great testament to one of Julian Copes best and well-loved albums.
