earMUSIC, the Hamburg based rock label which is part of Edel Group, is proud to announce the July 23rd UK release of “The Duke” – Joe Jackson’s tribute to American jazz icon Duke Ellington. The album will be released on CD, digital download and 12” vinyl. “ Ellington didn't consider his own arrangements to be sacred," says Jackson. "He constantly reworked them, sometimes quite radically. I think my approach is in the spirit of the man himself.” True to Jackson's word, The Duke is a decidedly unconventional salute to Ellington, demonstrating the timeless brilliance of his classic compositions while showcasing Jackson's sublime skills as an arranger, instrumentalist and vocal interpreter. Although it's only the second time he's recorded an album not comprised of his own compositions, The Duke is a deeply personal project for Jackson, whose longstanding affinity for Ellington's pioneering spirit has served as a key inspiration throughout his own three-decades-plus career. The Duke finds the iconoclastic English singer/composer/arranger/keyboardist and five-time Grammy nominee interpreting 15 Ellington classics over the course of ten tracks, interspersing melodic and rhythmic elements of various compositions in a manner that's consistent with Ellington's own freewheeling approach. Rather than emulating the songs' original big-band settings, Jackson filtered the music through his own musical imagination while exploring an assortment of unexpected grooves and textures. The resulting album is a seamless fusion of sounds and styles, whose abundant sense of playfulness is consistent with Ellington's boundary-breaking attitude. Jackson’s distinctive voice is featured on I’m Beginning To See The Light, Mood Indigo, and I Got It Bad (And ThatAin’t Good), while It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) features a duet with Iggy Pop. R&B diva Sharon Jones sings on I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But The Blues. In keeping with Ellington’s multiculuralism, Jackson welcomed Iranian singer Sussan Deyhim to perform Caravan in Farsi, and Lilian Vieira, of the Brazilian/Dutch collective Zuco 103, to create a sunny, sexy Portuguese version of Perdido.The album’s mix of electronic and organic textures, are evident on the instrumentals Isfahan, Rockin’ In Rhythm, TheMooche, and Black and Tan Fantasy. Musicians include contemporary jazz stars, violinist Regina Carter and bassist Christian McBride; rock guitarist Steve Vai; drummer Ahmir ‘?uestlove’ Thompson and other members of The Roots; plus Jackson’s old associates, guitarist Vinnie Zummo and percussionist Sue Hadjopoulos. The album was recorded and mixed by seven-time Grammy winner Elliot Scheiner (Steely Dan, Sting, Bob Dylan). Technical rock act Mutiny On The Bounty have signed to leading UK record label, Best Before, who will release their second album, “Trials”, to a UK audience. After their debut received wide critical acclaim and a release on the respected independent label, Big Scary Monsters, they have taken the next step up with a new home and new sound for album two.
“Trials” was recorded in Seattle with top producer Matt Bayles, famous for his work with Pearl Jam, Mastodon, Isis and Fall Of Troy. Their math rock sound now incorporates electronic elements and greater melody without sacrificing the complex musicianship that won them their fanbase in the first place. The band have said of the collaboration: “We’re delighted to announce that we've signed to Best Before Records to release our second album, "Trials", an album that finally showcases the sound we have always wanted for the band. Best Before has released album for bands such as Dananananaykroyd, 22, Johnny Foreigner and Sharks and we really can't wait to come back to the UK and play you the new material…”
Mutiny On The Bounty have previously toured with the likes of Coheed and Cambria, Portugal the Man and And So I Watch You From Afar. After their recent showcase at SXSW, they will play The Great Escape, Roskilde and tour throughout Europe over the summer and in theUK around the release of “Trials”, on August 6th. This will be preceded by a single, “Artifacts”, on July 26th.

In some of the first WALLANDER episodes ever to be produced, this unique collection joins the original Kurt Wallander, played by RolfLassgård (who will return to UK sceens later this year as “Sebastian Bergman”) as he sets out to solve 4 mysterious cases across 6 action-packed episodes. Based on the best-selling books by Swedish crime writer Henning Mankell, detective Kurt Wallander is an intense and headstrong maverick, prone to eating poorly, sleeping irregularly and drinking too much.
These original WALLANDER films have proved hugely influential. Produced between 1994 and 2007, they not only paved the way for a Swedish television adaptation featuring 26 episodes across 2 series, where Kurt Wallander was played by Krister Henriksson, but also for an English adaptation, commissioned by the BBC. Broadcast on BBC1 and syndicated worldwide, WALLANDER was played by the legendary Irish actor Kenneth Branagh.
WALLANDER is widely credited for kick-starting the UK’s love of foreign language drama. To coincide with BBC1’s big-budget English adaptation of the series, BBC4 announced that it would air its Swedish counterpart. First broadcast in late 2008, The Killing and Borgenhave since followed WALLANDER into the nations hearts, with The Bridge now set to continue the trend.
